About me
Shanna Hastie is the Community Engagement and Outreach Strategist for Region 2 in the NNLM program. Region 2 comprises Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In her current role, Shanna uses a community-organizing approach to engage with existing members and recruit new members, focusing on underrepresented and medically underserved populations. Shanna is the main point of contact for NNLM membership within the region, and ensures adequate resources are available to support initiatives using NLM products and services. Shanna also serves as Co-Chair of the region's Emergency Response and Preparedness Advisory Committee (ERPAC).
Shanna joined the NNLM Region 2 team in December 2024, bringing with her a wealth of expertise as a Public Health Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in Social Work and community engagement. She is known as a subject-matter expert in community partnerships to increase STIs/HIV awareness and prevention in the South. Shanna was the first Social Worker to serve as the director of the Sexual Health (STI) Awareness & Prevention Education (SHAPE Tricounty), non-profit organization comprised of health professionals, community-based organizations, academic institutions, faith-based organizations, and persons living with HIV to provide evidence-based interventions to increase sexual health information in Charleston and surrounding area(s). Under her leadership, the organization established the first free At-Home HIV Testing Kit pilot program in South Carolina. She was also instrumental in Charleston, SC, becoming a Fast-Track City.
Shanna is known as a "connecter". Her interests include capacity-building and community-engagement with interprofessional partners to address health initiatives through innovation and empowerment. Shanna champions building transformative partnerships on national and global platforms to promote equality and equity in healthcare outcomes.
